Tax-free holidays! 

Tax-free weekends/weeks are annual state-wide events that are great opportunities for shoppers to take advantage to make certain purchases without paying state/local sales taxes on items such as clothing, school supplies, shoes, and other savings.


States may choose whether to hold such a holiday or not and decide which types of items to exempt. There are 17 States that have tax-free holiday this year. Each state that participates in tax-free holidays has different rules and exclusions. 

Below are 17 states that have tax-free holidays:

Alabama (7/19 - 7/21)
Eligible Items - Sales Tax Holiday: Reduced Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes:$100 or less per item
Computers, computer software, & school computer equipment: $750 or less per item
School supplies & school art supplies: $50 or less per item
Books: $30 or less per item

Arkansas (8/3 - 8/4)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: Less than $100 per item
Clothing accessories or equipment: Less than $50 per item
School supplies, school art supplies, & school instructional materials: No price limit

Connecticut (8/18 - 8/24)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Week: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: Less than $100 per item

Florida (8/2 - 8/6)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing, shoes, accessories & school backpacks: Less than $60 per item
School supplies: Less than $15 per item
Computers: $1,000 or less per item 

Iowa (8/2 - 8/3)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: Less than $100 per item

Massachusetts (8/17 - 8/18)
Eligible Items -  Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Items of Tangible Personal Property except tobacco, meals, motorboats and phone cards:  $2,500 or less per item 

Maryland (8/11 - 8/17)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes excluding accessories: $100 or less per item
School backpacks: $40 or less per item

Mississippi (7/26 - 7/27)
Eligible Items - Sales Tax Holiday: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: Less than $100 per item
School supplies: Less than $100 per item

Missouri (8/2 - 8/4)
Eligible Items - Sales Tax Holiday: Reduced Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: $100 or less per item
School supplies: $50 or less per transaction
Computer software: $350 or less per item
Computers  & computer peripherals: $1,500 or less per item

New Mexico (8/2 -8/4)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing & shoes: Less than $100 per item
School supplies: Less than $30 per item
Computers: $1,000 or less per item
Computer peripherals: $500 or less per item

Ohio (8/2 - 8/4)

Clothing and shoes: Less than $100 per item
School supplies & school backpacks: Less than $100 per item

Virginia (8/2 - 8/4)
Eligible Items - Tax Free Weekend: No Sales Tax
Clothing, shoes, & diapers: $100 or less per item
School supplies: $20 or less per item
Hurricane preparedness items: $60 or less per item
Portable generators: $1,000 or less per item
Energy Star certified appliances & light bulbs: $2,500 or less per item
Water Sense certified products: $2,500 or less per item

You don't have to live in these states to take advantage of their tax-free weekends either, simply visit the state to do your shopping and you won't have to pay sales tax on those items as long as they are eligible under the state's tax-free shopping guidelines.
